    Da es das Ziel dieser Literatur ist, diese „allgemeinmenschlichen Interessen“ durchsetzen zu helfen, trägt sie einen ausgeprägt moralisierenden Charakter. Zu den ersten Werken, die in Frankreich diese neue bewußtseinsbildende Funktion exemplarisch wahrzunehmen suchten, gehören Marmontels Contes moraux (1761; „Moralische Erzählungen“).
